**You're Educated, Career Focused, and Unemployed in the Middle of a Pandemic: Now What? Read more for Skills Transfer**

If you are one of the millions of Americans experiencing unemployment as the result being laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, finding a new job may seem more challenging than ever. Not only are you competing with a historically large number of candidates, the job market has also changed significantly. How can you translate your previously relevant skills and experience into a new career path and standout to future employers as a highly qualified candidate? These are the questions that CredReady can help you answer.

In the U.S. approximately 36% of people age 25 or older have a bachelor’s degree. The pre-professional educational experience that leads to a bachelor’s degree equips individuals with specific skills, competencies and in some cases, an entry point to the workforce. But what do you do if your degree gave you an entry point to a career in an industry that has been forced downsize its workforce?

You could perfect your resume to demonstrate your previous experience in the best way possible, then search job boards for the few opportunities that exist in your chosen career field and if you happen to find the needle in haystack job, apply. Maybe you’ll get lucky and your application will reach a recruiter or hiring manager, they’ll understand that you’re perfect for the role, you’ll ace the interviews and land the job! Sadly, that’s not likely - studies have shown that, at most, 25% of applications make it through an applicant tracking systems to be reviewed by an actual human before they get rejected.

According to a recent [Job Outlook Survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers](https://www.naceweb.org/talent-acquisition/candidate-selection/employers-want-to-see-these-attributes-on-students-resumes/), written-communication skills were one of the most sought-after skills by employers. Beyond that, problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team, initiative, and strong work ethic were the next most highly valued skills. Your pre-professional education and existing work experience may have provided you with highly valued skills like these. If not, there are many online course providers offering ways to learn or improve upon them. LinkedIn Learning, for example, offers free courses like [Communication Foundations](https://www.linkedin.com/learning/communication-foundations-2/foundations-of-communication), [Critical Thinking](https://www.linkedin.com/learning/critical-thinking/welcome-to-critical-thinking-2), and [Developing Your Emotional Intelligence](https://www.linkedin.com/learning/developing-your-emotional-intelligence/benefits-of-building-emotional-intelligence). You can take the time to develop your skills, but determining how you can apply them to a new career path is still difficult. That’s where CredReady comes in.

[Pathway Analytics](https://www.credready.com/pathway-analytics), the science behind CredReady, measures your skills, experience, and education against millions of sequences that lead to positive employment outcomes. We can then use that assessment to provide you with a custom set of careers options that match directly with your capabilities. We know that the drivers of career success aren’t always obvious, especially when the career success you previously experienced is no longer possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing rapid changes in workforce needs. Through our deep data analysis, we’ll help you find the work you’re best suited for based on the skills and experience that you already have.

We are here to help you figure out what’s next. For more information, leave your comments below or [contact us](https://www.credready.com/contact-credready).
